So, I just know you've all been itching to start this, right? Well, while Tatsu is still being fleshed out, there really isn't anything that says we can't begin RPing or making works. I thought I'd take the initiative. If anyone wants to jump in, they can if they are so inclined. I thought breaking it into chapters would also better-organize it. Let's see where this goes.
By the way, I'm not accustomed to roleplaying. So if I end up really sucking at this, my deepest apologies. And don't mind the first sentence, it's a reference.
Also, Voltorb may be genderless, but Raoul identifies as masculine.
Fear & Loathing in Tatsu Chapter 1: Getting Their Bearings
They were somewhere around Centria, on the edge of the meadow, when Raoul's hunger began to take hold.
Turning around and walking backwards, Jaylen looked up in the air and gazed upon the skyscrapers of the city behind him. He and his Pokémon had just made it past the outskirts of the central metropolis, and were raring to take their chances in the great Tatsuan outdoors.
"Orb, orb," Jaylen's Voltorb murmured with distress. Jaylen turned back to look at his Pokémon, seeing him looking quite the worse for wear.
"Hey... Raoul, buddy, are you hungry? Oh jeez, I guess I forgot you can't eat people food. I don't know what to tell you, though. There aren't any power plants around here for you, and besides, you can't expect to leech off the electricity all the time! Actually, I think you're getting a little pudgy," Jaylen joked, poking at his Voltorb below the eyes. Raoul rolled his eyes, but acknowledged the truth, and turned to the road ahead.
"Tatsu, eh? This place is supposed to be crazy big. I'd better check our map!" Jaylen said, tugging on his messy golden-brown hair. He pulled a book out of his black backpack, and opened it up, unfolding the giant map in the center. He'd taken this book, the Tatsu Trainer's Atlas, from the Centria Pokémon Center just that morning before they began their excursion.
"Well, what do you know? Maybe you can eat soon after all. It'll probably take a couple days, but we're in the northeast right now. We're headed for Wattsburg. They have a big power plant there. So, let's get a move on! Wattsburg, here we come!" Jaylen shouted.
"Voltorb!" Raoul cried in delight. Jaylen took off down the path, Raoul rolling at his side.
...That is, the path southwest, towards Breezetop City.

[[Aaaah, love the multiple Fear and Loathing references everywhere. In other news, please excuse my terribly over-dramatic writing style.]]
The wind danced and swirled around the large turbines of Breezetop Valley, whipping up Loren’s long skirt as she walked through the sloping hills. She smiled, feeling the breeze against her exposed arms and face – a pleasant break from the stuffy air of trains and subways, which she was used to traveling by. From behind her sunglasses the young woman gazed out at the landscape around her; though it appeared to be nothing but an incoherent mess of blues and greens, it was still a prettier sight than plastic grey walls.
Gabriel floated alongside her, using his psychic abilities to carry the overstuff bag filled with their belongings. He too looked happy about traveling outdoors for once, though he kept a wary eye out for wild pokemon as well.
The pair wandered in silence before Loren suddenly stopped and plopped down onto the grassy knoll, though Gabriel didn’t seem at all surprised by her actions. As she unzipped her knee-high boots, he gingerly placed the bag on the ground nearby, making no movement to actually take a seat. Loren then unclipped two minimized pokeballs from the sash around her hips and released Hopkins and Gamera. “Have some fun, guys,” she told them, laying her head back in the grass. “I think we could all use a little rest.”
Hopkins looked a little jealously at Gabriel, who clearly had no intention of leaving Loren’s side, before turning his attention to the bag at his trainer’s feet. With a toothy grin splitting his face, he dug hungrily through the outer pockets before discovering a stash of small gems. There were cheap things, not at all as delicious as evolutionary stones or heart scales, but they did the job. Meanwhile, Gamera just watched, amused by his little friend’s antics.

Oho, I'm liking this very much. I think it might be beneficial to continue to shape Tatsu through the collective writing of the members, since this way there might be more discussion going on. Anyways, I'd greatly appreciate criticism for what I have so far. I know it's not the best and it feels like I probably overdid it a bit, but that's all the more reason to ask for advice. - - - - - - - - - - Some optional ambiance to go along with the story.Alice opened her eyes. She watched the cotton-like clouds lazily swim by, the blue and white sky punctuated by black specks that were the bodies of flying birds. A soft wind blew through the hilly field, carrying with it leaves from nearby trees and rustling the grass on which Alice laid. A blue cotton Pokemon flew past her and was soon accompanied by three more, each floating through the air with cries of "pluff" on every bounce. The scene was peaceful and serene, but Alice felt anything but. The weather made her feel uneasy: it was almost as if the glowing sun was mocking her. She raised a hand to the sky to blot it out as the brightness was painful to her eyes, but it soon fell asleep and dropped heavily onto the field again. This is the field where I first met Flynn, she reminisced. Looking around, she found the red-bellied Pokemon munching on a bundle of dandelions it had collected, almost reflexively spitting them out with evident disgust. The faintest trace of a smile began to crawl onto her face, and it soon blossomed into full-on laughter. Her giggling didn't go unnoticed; Flynn quickly dug a hole and immediately buried his unappetizing would-be snack. Today was her graduation ceremony. Today was the last day she would be a high school student. Today was the day she would begin her travels in Tatsu. Not as a tourist or a photographer or anything like that, but as a Pokemon trainer. She reached into the shirt pocket of her uniform and pulled out a single photo. The photo was small - less than half the size of her hand - but the expressions of the people in the picture were as clear as if they had been standing right in front of her. Behind the flamboyant border and numerous pink scribbles were the faces of a boy and a girl. The boy wore on his face a grin that seemed to stretch from ear to ear, while forming a V with his right hand and draping his left arm over the shoulder of the girl in the picture, who was looking into a bottom corner and nearly as red as a Pokeball. As she examined the photo, her nose began to ache and her vision clouded. Reluctantly, she decided that it would be best to put the photo away for now. She never planned on becoming a Pokemon trainer. During her first year of high school, all she ever wanted to do - or rather, ever considered doing - was to get good enough grades to appease the dictators who were her parents, enroll in Smuggon University and eventually find a job as an accountant somewhere. She thought that she would spend the rest of her life in peace and tranquility, in monotony and obscurity. But now... Alice closed her eyes once more. Now I have a dream, she thought. A dream... and a promise to fulfill. She had promised she would leave on a journey instead of pursuing further education, promised to make friends with many Pokemon, and promised to see all the sights the world could offer. She promised to do all these things, in place of and for the sake of the grinning boy in the photo, who continues to live in her memories. Opening her eyes again, Alice stood up and dusted off the stubborn blades of grass clinging to her skirt and called for Flynn and Pike, the two Pokemon she had with her. The two eagerly responded and followed her intently. Today was the day she would return home and begin her new life.

[Tisn't much but...]
It was the kind of morning where one would sleep in. It was also that kind of rather warm morning where one would do so in only a pair of boxer shorts.
Rather than use a standard alarm clock and risk waking Fluff, a Bachuru that nested on top of the desktop computer's casing, Travis had acquired a small apparatus that fitted nicely on the clock to release one of his Pokémon when the clock hit the alarm time. Right on cue, the Pokéball that rested on top of the small, cubic apparatus flashed red and then opened, releasing a Pokémon into the quarters right above its trainer.
Casper the Gastly gave a rather audible yawn as it opened its eyes, apparently more enthusiastic about greeting the day than the room's other two occupants. And speaking of the other two occupants, Casper decided that the human should be the first to share in its enthusiasm. It hovered down behind Travis' back - always a good 'ambush' spot and gave him a good Lick.
"Aaaaah~" Travis moaned as the Gastly's tongue made its slithery way up his spine, causing him to clutch his pillow as his back arched. The human blushed quite visibly as his eyes opened, the red LED digits on the alarm clock as the first thing he saw.
"What time...ah...crap." He looked at the clock on his bedside table, or rather, the edge of his computer table. It was getting close to 'on time' and he didn't want to be late. He slowly sat up on the mattress, letting his feet brush against the cheap linoleum as he stretched his arms and beheld his cramped living quarters once again, particularly the window opposite his bed.
Technically, it was a room with a view. Though technically that 'view' consisted of an alleyway he could probably stretch himself over and the staircase of the other stalactite-like building next to his room. Still, he could safely say it was his as long as he paid the rent on time. And the air-conditioner had decided to work tonight, which was always a plus.
He got up and ran a couple of fingers across Fluff's, well, fluff. The little electric spider let out a rather happy(?) chirping noise as it woke up, and immediately skittered down to the nearest power outlet to get its 'breakfast.'
As he made his way to the bathroom (whose door could also be seen from the bed next to the exit) to get dressed, he began to recite today's work list by grumbling out loud. It mostly consisted of manning one of the local electronics stalls and just attracting (and trying to haggle with) customers. At least he could get more free time today than his 'pest control' days...

Jaylen peered up and watched the sun steadily climb across the blue sky from between his fingers. He looked down, blinking rapidly. It looks like it's just about noon, he thought.
Suddenly, a shadow moved across the ground too fast for him to see, like that of a bird. Wait! A shadow! Could it be? Jaylen suddenly looked up again, prompting a questioning glance from Raoul. "Oh... sorry if I scared you. I just thought I saw something for a minute," Jaylen replied with a chuckle.
He looked down at his feet and continued shuffling along. He couldn't say he was excited as he was when he'd first set out. He'd long since learned from a sign that they were in fact in Breeze Valley, on the path towards Breezetop City.
Raoul had been a little miffed at first, but the two had soon set aside their differences and had resorted to watching the little cars on the highway zipping by on their left, or the movement of the wind turbines and the faint rustling of the trees. Slowly, as the time out by themselves had worn on, Jaylen's mind had turned to heavier things. Not much could stir his thoughts now.
Finally, feeling like his legs were full of lead, Jaylen spotted the nearest tree and went to sit down at its foot. Pulling the three other Poké Balls off his pocket chain, he tossed them out onto the grass in front of them, revealing three more creatures - a Weedle, a Hoppip, and a Kabuto. Raoul rolled to their side, the four of them staring, puzzled, at their trainer.
"You all deserve a break, too," Jaylen told them with a nod. "Here, I have some food." Jaylen looked into his backpack and checked everything he had - his sketchbook, his travel guide, his Pokédex, some medicine for his Pokémon, and finally some food he'd packed for them for the trip. He pulled out the cans of Pokémon chow, as well as a sandwich he'd sloppily thrown together for himself.
Opening up the cans, he set them on the ground in front of him. Breezy, his Hoppip, drifted down happily to her can, but Goremann the Kabuto came up behind her. "Goremann, you can't eat Breezy!" Jaylen cried. Goremann clicked his arms in frustration, but went to go eat from his own can.
Soon, all his Pokémon had downed their lunch, while Raoul had been looking for something electric to feed off of, but hadn't found much success yet. Jaylen got up and dusted himself off, and placed the empty cans back into his backpack to put in a trash can later.
"So, guys, what are we going to do now?" Jaylen asked the gang. Breezy, Goremann and Slacker seemed to shrug, or as much as they could with their feeble bodies. But Raoul was facing away from the rest.
"Hey, what's up?" Jaylen asked his Voltorb, stepping forth. Raoul began charging up his electricity, staring at something in the sky. Jaylen's eyes followed his up to a Pokémon. A ravenous-looking Starly was there, who'd evidently been taking interest in their luncheon.
"I think I know what we're going to do," Jaylen corrected himself with a smirk. "Raoul, give it a Spark!"
Raoul jumped off the ground and hurtled at the Starly, his body surrounded by sparks.

((Sorry if it is too short, I don't tend to write a lot unless it is a story that spent months inside my head)) Máximo opened his eyes. He checked that most of his things were still laying next to him before standing up. Those tree roots were not the most comfortable of any bed he slept in. He grabbed his flashlight and projected it onto his hand, checking his shadow. He was delighted seeing a pair of blue eyes and a grin. He proceeded to release his Aron, Titanios, from his Pokéball, and proceeded to comb himself, using the polished surface of the Aron as a mirror. He got ready to leave and started walking towards the smoke, which Máximo expected to come out of some fireplaces, so he could finally ask someone for directions.

[[ growlithe - If you wanna join, then go for it. It's not like we're writing the next great American novel or anything.]] As Loren lay on that mattress of grass, her pokemon lazily playing around her while she rested, she began to realize that this was quiet possibly the most peaceful experience she had had in years. It was a almost depressing to think that something as simple as sitting in the sun could be so special, but she smiled anyway, just happy that things were starting to get better. Of course, such a serene moment couldn’t last long – that’s just the way life works. The gentle whisper of the breeze was pierced by a loud eight-bit jingle, causing Loren to shoot upright, her eyes wide open and her heart racing. It took her mind a few seconds to comprehend that it was her cell phone that was causing the racket, but by then the call had already been dropped. With a sigh, the young woman began to dig for her phone through the mess of clothing and random objects that filled the various pockets of her bag. Finally she found it at the bottom, wedged between a small packet of snacks and a book titled In Vogue. With a quick flick of her wrist, she popped the phone open and, to no one’s surprised, was greeted by an obnoxiously bright message: “One missed call”. Upon further investigation, her phone informed her that the call had come from David Jetta, a new acquaintance and boardline stalker of hers. The guy always seemed to call at the worst times, but he was one of her only (human) friends at the moment, so she put up with him. After a moment’s hesitation, she decided that she should probably call him back. It didn’t take long for David to pick up, though there was a few seconds of heavy breathing on the other line before he finally blurted out an awkward “Hey, Loren!” “You called?” she asked curtly, dispensing of any formal greetings. “O-oh, yeah, right. Umm, I remembered you mentioned that you’re heading towards Breezetop and, well, I happen to have just arrived there to install the new PC system. Maybe we can meet up once I’m done?” Of course. Loren didn’t really have any desire to join David in town but she figured it would be for the best. Her doctor was always telling her to try new things so, who knows; maybe the guy could lead to something good. “Sure, I’m on my way over now. I’m still in Breeze Valley.” Her tone was far from enthusiastic but he didn’t seem to notice; to be fair, these days Loren’s tone rarely sounded more than ‘mildly amused’. David, on the other hand, had quite the opposite problem. “Great! Call me when you get to the city then.” “Sure thing.” Click.Without waiting for a response, Loren snapped her phone shut and stuffed it back into the pocket it had come from. “Well guys, we’re moving out,” she said to her pokemon, who’d stop running around long ago to listen in on her conversation. She zipped up all her bag’s open pockets as well as her boots, returned Gamera to his pokemon – he could hardly keep up on those stubby legs of his – and then headed off towards Breezetop with Gabriel and Hopkins following close behind.

((The stunning conclusion to the battle of the century!))
"Staaaarliii!" the Starly cried, flapping up and away as Raoul failed to meet his mark and kept going, rolling forward into a bush.
"Ugh!" Jaylen groaned in exasperation, his hand colliding with his face. "I'm not giving up yet! Change of strategy - Breezy, let's take care of this!"
Breezy the Hoppip, as breezy as the valley she was in, twirled slowly, letting the gentle wind lift her up beside her avian antagonist. The escaping Starly, noticing her presence, hit the Hoppip with a Wing Attack. "Piiiiip!" Breezy cried, tumbling head over heels back to earth.
"Breezy!" Jaylen cried, catching his Hoppip. He looked up, and the Starly was already gone. "Tsk... Well, hey. Great job, anyway." Breezy nodded and stretched her leaves out wide, still satisfied with her work.
"I guess we need to stop fooling around," Jaylen remarked, standing up. "The next stop is Breezetop City." Re-tousling his hair, he slung his backpack over his back and reached for his Poké Balls again. He called Breezy back, then looked around for Slacker and Goremann. It didn't take long to find Goremann sizing up the worm Pokémon, as he so often did, for a tasty treat.
Jaylen and Raoul continued on their way through the peaceful, winding hills, sometimes walking in the shadow of wind turbines, and often taking glances at the sky to their southeast to check for the emergence of the Breezetop skyline.
"W-whooOAA!" Suddenly, after the fiftieth time of doing such, Jaylen jumped back. He found himself and Raoul surrounded among tall reeds, at the edge of a large pond that he was just about to step into. "W-wait, where are we?" Raoul gave him an incredulous look, as if to tell him 'we're lost, stupid'.
"You know... I need to pay more attention to where I'm going," Jaylen growled. "I always do stupid crap like this." Jaylen sat down on the bank of the pond, ready for another healthy round of self-deprecation, before his eyes jolted to something in the middle of the water.
There was a Surskit, darting around back and forth, its reflection wobbling beneath it. It turned its beady eyes to meet Jaylen's, and blinked with curiosity. After a few studious moments, it plucked a leaf floating in the water and skirted up to present it to Jaylen.
"Do you want me to have it?" Jaylen asked. Not receiving an answer, Jaylen took the leaf from Surskit. Surskit narrowed its eyes and swiped the leaf back, retreating to the pond again and skimming away at top speed.
"Hey! Hey! I'm sorry, okay? Let's be friends!" Jaylen yelled, jumping in and wading forth into the water, falling face-first into the water. Raoul hopped up and down, sending sparks of exasperation through the air, but the Surskit looked back and gave a challenging glance to the human. Jaylen re-emerged, sopping wet and with a Poké Ball in his hand. "If that's what you want, you're not getting away!" he warned.
((It's pretty much nonstop Pokemon Trainer business right now, but it won't be long before I try and introduce some intrigue to maybe spice things up...))

Ambience again.- - - - - - - - - - By the time Alice had made her final turn into the residential street on which her house laid, the once-bright sun had been thoroughly blotted out by a thick curtain of dark clouds. A couple of boys who looked no older than elementary age were having a Pokemon battle in a nearby driveway, oblivious to the rain that would soon come. Between them dashed a purple mouse Pokemon and its opponent, a blue rabbit-like Pokemon with large ears, each trying to score a hit on the other. The former was seeing much more success than its tired rival. Taking her attention away from the two boys, one of which had evidently won the battle judging by his exuberant cries of joy, Alice slipped the key to her house through the lock and opened the heavy wooden doors. Walking into the foyer, she could hear the sound of a noisy, cheering crowd coming from within the living room. Neatly hanging up her bag on a coat hook, she wandered into the parlor, where she was greeted by the sight of a thoroughly amused Timothy - her younger brother - watching a rowdy game of hockey on the TV. "Ah, sis!" The energetic boy jumped off the couch and leapt towards Alice - who despite being somewhat short for her age was still half a head taller than her brother - and wrapped her in a tight hug. She gave no response beyond a weak, forced smile. "Mom and dad said that they'll be back late today, but it looks like they left instructions for you in your room. O-oh, but not that I would've gone into your room to check or anything! I just heard them in the morning before they left. Besides, girls' rooms are full of cooties and... stuff." As if to emphasize his point, he stuck out his tongue and made a face. Alice responded with a quiet "thanks" before trudging up to her room; she was in no hurry to find out what kind of torment she would be subjected to yet again today. Timothy hurriedly resumed being thoroughly absorbed by his hockey game. As she opened the door to her modest bedroom, she immediately noticed a folded slip of paper laid neatly upon her otherwise empty vanity surface. Unfolding it, she read the message inside with evident disdain. "I have to go shopping for the neighbours' party today, and your father will be working late. Your list of duties for today include making dinner for Timothy and calling Carl to find out how he's doing. Also, Timothy has soccer practice at 7 PM; make sure you take him there on time and bring him home without any accidents. Leave your final grade report on the dinner table and we'll discuss it once both your father and I return." Alice had no sooner finished reading the note when she tore it to pieces and tossed the remains into the nearby waste bin, the white shreds gently floating into the container like moth wings. She had graduated today, and yet her parents didn't seem to care in the slightest. Nowhere in the note was there even a hint of appreciation; there were only cold demands. They hadn't even shown up for the graduation ceremony: whereas other students got to eagerly show off their new diplomas to their approving mothers and fathers, Alice could only quietly slip off to the grassy park, alone and unrecognized. Alice wanted to just crawl into her bed and cry away the remainder of the day, but a check of her watched showed the time to be just after 5 PM. As much as she hated it, unless she followed those instructions perfectly she would have to endure yet another round of deprecation at the hands of her parents. Preferring to spend her final days at her house in relative peace, Alice grudgingly descended the stairs and headed towards the kitchen. - - - - - - - - - - I know it's a bit melodramatic and not really Pokemon related right now, but I'll be gradually making it more relevant as the story progresses.

Wading deeper and deeper into the water, Jaylen grimaced and broke into a full swim as he chased the pesky Surskit. Rearing his head above the surface and gasping for air, Jaylen dove forward again with the fiercest strokes he could. I just can't resist a challenge, he thought to himself. The Surskit turned around to watch the human, then disappeared into a thick cluster of reeds. Jaylen finally stopped to catch his breath, and stood up in the middle of the pond, up to his neck in the water.
"On second thought, I should've taken these all off," Jaylen muttered. "What a pain." He stepped forth and parted the reeds, hoping for a sign of Surskit hidden in them, but to no avail. He then saw it in the distance, looking rather disappointed. A grin came to the young man's face, and he emerged with a Poké Ball in his hand.
"Let's go, Breezy!" Jaylen cried, as he called on his Hoppip again. Breezy floated back and forth above her foe. Breezy suddenly squeaked and pointed in horror at something below her.
"What's wrong?" Jaylen asked, concerned, and followed her stubby arm to Surskit. A shadow was growing in the water beneath it. "Oh... uh-oh. Surskit! Get away! It's..."
SPLASH.
The Surskit shrieked in terror and flailed its thin arms about as it suddenly found itself raised high into the air in the claw of a ravenous-looking Crawdaunt. The lobster-like beast turned its eyes on the human and raised a claw, snapping it at Jaylen. Jaylen started backing away, mortified. It looked like he didn't have a prayer of salvaging this situation in the least.
Unfortunately, it seemed like the Crawdaunt's warning was not merely a warning not to come closer, but a warning to start running. Crawdaunt gave a fierce, rattling cry and loosed a rapid BubbleBeam attack from its claw. Jaylen screamed and ducked in to the water as the bubbles just barely soared over his head. Still holding the struggling surskit, the Crawdaunt swam forth to Jaylen and held its claw up high again. It was rared to strike like a fierce blow.
Jaylen swam, swam with all his might, back through the reeds and across the pond, trying to get back to shore. But it looked like time was running out. His aggressor was getting closer. Dammit... what do I do?
Breezy floated overhead, looking unsure. Suddenly, Jaylen was met with Raoul, who'd decided to come into the water, floating like a mine. "Don't do anything, Raoul, or you'll fry all of us!" Jaylen shouted. He looked to Breezy.
"Breezy, try to use a Stun Spore!" Jaylen shouted. Breezy nodded, almost drowsily, and started scattering slow-falling spores over the Crawdaunt. It dove beneath the water to evade them with another splash, and all of Breezy's efforts were useless.
"Crap! Crap! Go, Goremann!" Jaylen cried, calling on his next choice, Goremann the Kabuto. Goremann emerged, paddling in the water. He raised his head, the smooth shield lifted to reveal his menacing red eyes. Jaylen jumped out of the way as the giant Crawdaunt emerged where Jaylen had been seconds prior.
"Goremann, Mud Shot! Quick!" Jaylen cried, and Goremann shot a blast of mud at the back of the lobster beast. Crawdaunt gave a rattling scream and wheeled around to face the smaller Pokémon. The Surskit was still in the Crawdaunt's grasp, which seemed to be tightening. It was struggling to breathe.
"Goremann, use Absorb! Distract it!" Jaylen cried, as he started to wade closer to the back of the large Pokémon.
Breep-breep-breep. Breep-breep-breep.
Jaylen grimaced and reached inside his pockets for his cell phone, which was thankfully waterproof. He finally found it, and though it was dripping wet, it was functional. That's when he saw the name. Samantha Murphy.
Shit, it's her.
Jaylen flipped open the phone. "Hi, Sam. Look, I'm a bit tied up at the moment... this really isn't a good time," he breathed in a panic, staring up at the Pokemon, which looked like it was going to attack Goremann.
"Jaylen... you always say you're a bit tied up. Come on... what happened to you? Remember, back in Goldenrod City? We were so happy. I'm sorry for what had to happen, but you can't avoid things forever! Come on..."
"Sam, this really isn't a good time!" Jaylen yelled. "Look, there's a real crisis going on."
"Jaylen, stop it and just calm down. I'm here for you. You don't need to run away," Sam continued.
Jaylen stared up at the creature, which gave another cry as it raised its free claw to strike Goremann.
"What was that? Jaylen? Hello?"
Thinking fast, Jaylen gave a gasp of air and dove beneath the surface of the water. I hope this works...

[continuing from story]
Spearow dove at the Phanpy head first, taking aim for it's Pursuit attack. In the moment before Spearow made contact Phanpy rolled out of the way, dodging the attack. Phanpy tuned in a flash and Tackled Spearow square in the back causing the bird to free fall. Before he hit the ground Spearow was able to stableize himself and climb to safety away from the little elephant.
"Good job Spearow! Okay lets try again with Peck!"
Spearow swooped around like an old fighter plane to appear behind his enemy. Phanpy lost track of Spearow in the sunlight and so didn't see him strike towards the back of his head. Spearow made contact with an audible crack. Phanpy was thrown face-first into the dirt with enough force to make him bounce off the gound once before landing solidly in the hard earth. Tengou watched the Pokemon but it just lay face-down on the ground, not moving at all.
"I think we got him Spearow!"
Tengou knelt down and unslung his yellow backpack placing it in front of him. He groped around in one of the smaller back pockets looking for a Poke-Ball, never taking his intense gaze off Phanpy. When he found what he was looking for he sprung back up and arced his arm back to launch the ball at Phanpy. The white and red balled hurtled toward Phanpy but when it reached its target it struck only the ground. Phanpy had launched itself back up and was frantically searching for a place to run to.
"Quick Spearow it's trying to make a break for it! Use another Fury Attack!"
"Spearooow!"
Spearow flew in at Phanpy screaming. The Phanpy was ready for this move this time however, and jumped up straight into the air, coming down to land on Spearow's back. Phanpy ground Spearow into the dirt and then made a mad dash back toward the bushes for safety.
"No you don't!"
Tengou launched the Poke-Ball at Phanpy hitting him straight in the ribs. The Pokemon disappearedin a flash of red light into the Poke-Ball. The ball rocked back and forth as the Pokemon tried to escape. Tengou watched the red button on the front of the machinism apempting to will it to turn white again.
The ball rocked a second time and Tengou held his breathe. By this time Spearow had again got into the air and circled around the Poke-Ball waiting in the event the Phanpy should escape. A third shudder eminated from the Poke-Ball and with a click and pulsing noise the ball stood still.
"Yaa hoooo!!"
Tengou jumped into the air and landed with a stomp. He pumped his fists back and forth as fast as he could and then switched to repeatedly pointing at the Poke-Ball on the ground.
When he wore himself out he ran over to the ball and snatched it off the ground. Holding it out against the light of the sun he admired his new catch.
"Hmm, I wonder what I do now? Will it just obey me? Maybe I have to bribe it to like me like I did with you Spearow." His Pokemon landed on the ground near Tengou and arranged his wings. "I hope he's not mad at me for catching him."
Tengou pushed the utton on the Poke-Ball to make it shrink and tucked it in one of the pockets behind him in his pack. He ajusted the weight on his straps and then turned to Spearow.
"Good eye Spearow! keep on the look out for anything else that could be handy. There is supposed to be a small inn around here somewhere. We should stop there to rest."
Tengou marched off in the direction he had been heading before the battle and soon came across the inn. Deciding to stop for the night he rented a room and retired to his chambers. He plopped his gear down in heavy relief.
"Wow, I'm not used to carrying so much stuff so far. Okay Spearow I'm going downstairs you can come if you want."
The little Spearow hopped up and down. "Speeaarrooww"
"Okay, okay calm down buddy. Hmm I wonder if I will meet any new trainers here..."

Tengou woke with a jmp. He sat straight up in his chair by the fire place.
"whao. I must ahve dozed off or something. It feels like I've been sleeping forever!"
Tengou looked around the room. Nothing had changed so He figured he couldnt have been sleeping that long. Spearow was still down at Tengou's side, taking in warmth from the fire and resting from its batle not too long ago.
"I'm hungry. I wonder where I can get food here..."
Tengou pushed himself out of the chair slowly and stepped softly away so that he wouldn't wake Spearow. He wandered around the bottom floor of the in but it was dark an no one seemed to be around.
"I guess I'll have to wait until the morning to get something to eat."
Tengou rubbed his somach as it made a churning noise. He drew in a breathe slowly and let it out.
"alright I guess I better get Spearow and go to bed. The sooner I fall asleep the sooner I can get up to eat something."
HE started to head back to the fire place where he had fallen asleep. When he approached the seat Tengou saw Spearow staring intently into the darkness. Something was there. Tengou froze and strained to hear something.
He heard a sharp inhale and then it was quiet again. Some one was definetly there. He crept closer to Spearow and tried not to make it obvious that he had caught on some one was present.
Tengou bent down close to Spearow and started brushing the feathers on his chest with the back of his hand. "Do you think they are supposed to be here Spearow?"
Spearow let out a quiet puff of air.
"Okay, I think we should investigate incase the place is being robbed or something. I think they are just in the next room so I'm going to turn on the light and run in. I want you right behind me Spearow incase I need you."
Speaorw stared intently at Tengou for a second and then nodded his head. At that Tengou got up and moved to the door way. He reached around and silently groped for a switch or knob that would turn on some lights. The tips of his fingers brushed up against aswitch. He inhaled slowly. Tengou turned and looked for Spearow. The little bird Pokemon was right behind him.
"Ready Spearow?" He wispered.
All at once Tengou mashed the switch and barged into the room. Spearow flew up in a fluster over Tengou's head and landed square in the middle of the room. He cocked his head from side to side looking for threats that could come from any part of the room. At the same time both their gaze turned to a girl sitting in a chair, her knees brought up to her chest and one fist poised in front of her mouth. By the way her eyes were swollen and red it was obvious that she had been crying. She had stopped crying now and looked terrified, confused, and relieved all at once.
Tengou relaxed. He looked away from her at one of the book shelves and scratched the back of hhis head. Spearow continued to stare the girl down, waiting for her to make a move. With out looking at either the bird or the girl in the chair Tengou lightly kicked Spearow to make him stop.
"umm, I'm sorry. I...ahh...I thought you might have been a robber. I guess I'll just go now."
Tengou picked up Spearow and made a dash out of the room. Before he made it out of the dooe however the girl half rose out of the chair and reached out to Tengou.
"Wait."
Tengou stopped and turned to see the girl sitting normally in the chair staring at him. Neither of them said anything. Tengou could feel the awkward energy trying to push him out the door.
Finally the girl wiped at her eyes and sniffled. "You're a Pokemon trainer aren't you?"
"Ya I am" Tengou smiled. "Actually I caught a new Pokemon today."
The girl brightened "Really? That's fantastic!" She sunk into the chair again "I wish I could catch Pokemon."
"Well it's not that hard. All you need is a PokeBall and a little luck that's all. Does that mean you only have one Pokemon?"
"I don't have any actually. There is a Crawdaunt up stairs in my room but it's my brothers, not mine. He let me borrow it to come here and try for the Tatsu League Championship. I don't know what I'm doing though."
She crossed her arms and the room fell silent again. Tengou got closer to the girl. When he sat down on the floor in front of her it occured to him that this girl was older than he first thought. She had long wavey, dark brown hair and brown eyes. A few freckles dotted her nose but if you didn't look closely they weren't obviously there. Tengou admired her as she looked at Spearow.
He blinked hard to snap himself out of his trance. Well I could teach you how. I'm pretty new at this too so we can learn together." He smiled and held his hand out to her. "I'm Tengou and I came from Vermillion City in Kanto."
She wiped her eyes again and smiled. "Pleased to meet you Tengou, I'm Emma from Jubilife."
"No way! I used to live in Jubilife but moved pretty recently!"
"Ahh really? Thats fantastic! I'm so glad I found some one I can relate too. I came out to the Tatsu League because my brother is collecting badges in Sinnoh and I wanted to do something different. He already has five badges and a lot of Pokemon, that's why he lent me his Crawdaunt. When I researched how the league badges work here I thought it was so cool I couldn't resist coming here. This place is so beautiful. I've only been here two weeks and It already looks so diverse here. How long have you been here from Vermillion?"
Tengou looked at Spearow. A smirk grew on his face and he looked back to Emma. "Umm we just got in today. We were looking for a place to sleep and eat when we found this joint." Tengou looked around the room again.
"Oh well it's too late to get food here now silly." She beamed at him. "Why don't you come up to my room? Iv'e got food there that shold tide you over until tommorrow. Besides it would be nice to have someone to talk to. It's so lonely not knowing any body."
"Awesome! Alright lets go then. I'll meet you in your room. I want to go get my new Pokemon first so I can show you. What room number are you in?"
"I'm in room 2. It's right by the stairs there."
"Alright I'll meet you there in like, five minutes."
Tengo got up and picked up Spearow quickly. The Pokemon let out an obtuse squawk as he didn't expect to be so suddenly and violently plucked from his roost. Tengou bounded up the stairs smiling to himself. He was happy to have made a new friend, and she was cute.

Blinking through the watery depths, Jaylen saw what he was looking for - a rock on the pond bed. He scooped it up in his hand, and swam his fastest around the shadow of the monster in the lake. Sam was still on the other end, but all Jaylen could hear underwater was her vague, agitated yelling. "Glub... glub... ahhh!"Jaylen gasped as he finally broke the surface of the water. With a defiant yell, Jaylen swung the heavy stone around and hurled it into the air. "Let's show this rowdy crawdad how we do things downtown!"The rock struck the Crawdaunt in the side of the head, and to his relief, it began to topple over onto its side, crashing into the lake with an enormous splash. Foe Crawdaunt fainted!"Where'd that voice come from?!" Jaylen asked nobody in particular, looking around. The Crawdaunt's right claw went limp and opened up, releasing the captured Surskit. Jaylen sighed in relief as the Surskit skimmed up to him. Jaylen locked eyes with the water/bug Pokémon. "Well, looks like that takes care of that, huh, Surskit?" The Surskit nodded. "Skit skit!" Raoul, Breezy, and Goremann all came to Jaylen's side, and he smiled at them. "Well, thanks, guys. You all deserve a rest." Jaylen called Breezy and Goremann into their Poké Balls, and climbed onto land, while Raoul joined him. Jaylen looked back at the Surskit. "Well, I was going to catch you, but I guess I won't bother you now." Surskit looked back apprehensively at the unconscious Crawdaunt, and crawled onto land, clinging to Jaylen's leg. Jaylen cocked his head, and a sudden realization dawned on him. "You think you'd like to come with me? To get stronger?" Jaylen asked the Surskit. The Surskit gave an emphatic nod, and Jaylen shrugged his shoulders. "You got it! Welcome to the team, buddy." Grabbing another Poké Ball, he hurled it at the small creature, and it disappeared in a flash of light. Wobble. Wobble. Click.Congratulations! The Surskit was caught!"Now where did that one come from?" Jaylen wondered to himself, as he let Surskit out of its new home. "You're a boy, right? You look like a boy to me, Surskit. I think I will call you... VAN DYKE!" As Surskit took in his new name, Jaylen's phone beeped again. A shiver of apprehension and guilt went up his spine, but he gathered the courage to open it. Samantha had long ago hung up, but there was one new voice-mail. He pressed play. "Jaylen, I've had it with this! Stop avoiding me like a jerkass, okay? I'm only trying to get through to you, but now you're just an antisocial prick. *sigh* I'm sorry... Jaylen... please, one day, can you find the strength to call me? You know it wasn't your fault. There's no reason to be this way."Jaylen closed his phone, not needing to hear any more. He took a deep breath and looked up at the sky, which was now a purple color. It was getting very late, and he hadn't eaten since lunch. As he lowered his gaze, there was an old-fashioned-looking inn straight ahead. The pond seemed to have belonged to the inn. "Why don't we just call it a night? We can make it to Breezetop tomorrow," Jaylen asked his Pokémon. Raoul and Van Dyke nodded. Jaylen went up to the door, opened the inn door, and went in. Checking in for the night, Jaylen got his room number: 1. He, Raoul and Van Dyke tromped up the stairs to a hall full of doors to guest rooms. The very first doors in the hall were doors to rooms 1, Jaylen's room, and room 2, one that would be occupied in a few hour's time. Jaylen opened the door to Room 1. Van Dyke and Raoul made themselves comfortable in corners of the room, while Jaylen set his backpack and Poké Balls down on the nearby table, and flopped onto the bed.

The following flashback may be inaccurate.
Johto - Violet City, One Month Ago
Jaylen thrust aside the doors of the Pokémon Gym, his four Pokémon's Poké Balls dangling by his waist, while their usual occupants stood boldly by his side - Raoul, Slacker, Breezy and Goremann. Riding the elevator until they got to the battlefield at the very top, Jaylen and his Pokémon stepped forth.
"I'm here to win a badge!" Jaylen cried into the shrouded far end of the battlefield.
Out of the darkness emerged a figure - a man with blue bangs obscuring his right eye. "Mwa ha ha... I see I have a new victim. Tremble at my might, you insignificant fool! For I am Falkner - Violet City gym leader, and a member of the Consortium of Evil Flying-Type Gym Leaders, which my father created! You will be crushed!"
"Oh no! This gym leader is a dastardly villain!" Jaylen shouted. "You'll never take me, you rogue! I will bring you to justice! Attack, Raoul!"
Falkner then proceeded to decimate Jaylen's team.
"You have now lost! I shall proceed to take your soul and your Pokémon's souls!" Falkner yelled.
"No! Screw that, I'm going to Tatsu! You'll see!" Jaylen shot back, and taking his Pokémon, escaped to the nearby Pokémon Center.
"Fine, you may flee! But I shall tell my friends in the Consortium about you! If you ever are unfortunate enough to cross in their path, they will not be so merciful! Mwahahahaha!" Falkner laughed. He retired to his private quarters and picked up his phone.
"Rahona..."
"Yes, Falkner?"
"Be on the lookout for this kind of stupid-looking teenager with a Voltorb. If you ever meet him... destroy him!"
"Yes, Falkner! I cannot wait to entangle him in my monstrous blue pigtails and have him for dinner! Bwa ha ha ha haaa!"
~inaccurate flashback over~
Jaylen shook his head, sitting up in the middle of the night. "Ugh... wow... what time is it?" he muttered, and looked at the clock. It was only about an hour later. He grumbled, and went back to sleep, figuring that dream would probably not foreshadow anything in any way.
