Something just popped into my head and I thought I'd post it here first to avoid making a whole character sheet and then being told that the idea can't be canon.
Basically, this currently nameless trainer was a paranormal investigator who specialized in local urban legends. She's originally from Tatsu but traveled to Kanto after hearing about strange visions and disappearances along the coast of Cinnabar Island. No one knows exactly what she saw there, but an eye witness - a friend who agreed to take the trip with her - said that she suddenly froze while walking along the coast and remained frozen for a good five minutes before fainting just as abruptly. When she awoke she could hardly speak she was so shaken, and when she finally did talk she just kept babbling about a "missing number". She was immediately taken back to Tatsu by her friend and committed to Vouslich Asylum.
Nowadays she's significantly more coherent and has been released from Vouslich, but she's still got the doctor's number on speed dial should a problem arise. She now has a phobia of the beach/ocean and of high pitched noise. On top of that, her vision is completely scrambled; she's not totally blind but things appear almost pixelated to her. On the bright side, she can once again hold conversations with people and she's no longer plagued by nightmares.
Even though it's hard she still tries to travel to keep her mind off things, so the asylum has provided her with a gardevoir that's been trained to work with patients to keep her company. She no longer has any interest in the paranormal and instead keeps herself firmly grounded in reality by reading (no fantasy/sci-fi/etc.) and writing.
